In Spain, children’s games at school have not changed in decades. Everyone knows how to play marbles, flip and jump rope. I thought that was kind of cool.

I like the games the kids play at school. Every day the six year old shows me the new marbles she has won from her friends, she is excited about these colored crystal balls. Read the bills. Top Trumps is a fun card game where players try to win all the cards by having the best “stats”. Anyone can play Top Trumps. To start the game, distribute all the cards equally among the players. The player to the left of the dealer goes first. They draw the top card from their pile and read the stats on the card with the highest number. For example, they might say “weight 250” or “intelligence 45”. Then the other players read the same stats on their card. Whoever has the highest number for that number wins all the cards and places them at the bottom of their pile. The winner draws the main card from their pile and reads their highest stat to start the next round. The game continues until one player collects all the cards and wins!
